It's here... summer. In Atlanta, that often means unbearable humid weather. For dogs it can be especially bad.
Here are a few things to remember and employ this season to help keep your furry friend more safe and comfortable.
- It's always best to walk your dogs every day... just try to keep it to the mornings and later evening when the temps are cooler
- If you must take midday walks, keep in mind shady trails. Also, carry a travel friendly water bowl... sometimes referred to as a "gulpy"
- Remember hot asphalt happens. Even though dog foot pads are tough, it can still be painful. Grass is better or again; early and late hour walks.
- Atlanta thunderstorms! Hopefully we will have plenty this season but keep in mind how afraid dogs can be of these. Check your weather before leaving for work and make arrangements for Fido to deal best with the possibility of a storm
- Fourth of July in Atlanta! Oh ya.... Really similar to Storms. Dogs often freak out and disappear around the 4th. Please remember to keep your dogs indoors during this mayhem.
- CARS. This of course is a no brainer. If you must take your dog anywhere with you in the car this summer, NEVER leave them in the car unless the air-conditioning is on. A cracked window doesn't do jack and many dogs die this way.
- Big dogs Love to get cool with the hose. Remember how much fun it was to run through the sprinkler? Give them a treat.
Keep it Cool and Safe this season!

"Put simply, Dawn Ellerman has tremendous 'animal magnetism' in the most literal sense. While she exhibits the utmost integrity and responsibility, she has become a welcome best friend to our two dogs and two cats. It is such a relief to know that our 'babies' are so well-loved and cared for while we are away. What used to be tramatic for them, has now become a fun-filled mini-vacation with their buddy Dawn. We get home and find content, happy pets in a clean, well-cared for house.
What peace of mind!"

"My wife and I have an assortment of cats and dogs that are our 'children' and on those occasions when we travel we have Dawn pet-sit them for us.
We have entrusted her with our home and our pets for the past 4 years and she has done a splendid job of looking after everyone. She pays special attention to exercise and to seeing that medications are given to our animals. They have become her buddies, and always are happy to see her. It helps us to relax and enjoy ourselves when we aren't there to know that Dawn is "on the job", taking care of everything.
If you are considering the hiring of a pet sitter, I strongly urge you to work with Dawn."
--Glen Colton"Dawn Ellerman has been house/pet sitting for me for 5 years. I would have no one else in my home. Not only is she extremely conscientious about her sitting duties, she has complete love for the animals she attends to. Her love of the great outdoors is also a plus, because she "never walks alone."
If you are someone who gets offended when you return home and your pets appear indifferent to see you, then you might not want Dawn. All critters love Dawn!!!"
--Sheree Colton"My family has been thrilled with the petsitting services of Dawn Ellerman! It's such a relief to be able to leave town knowing Dawn truly cares for our animals and is 100% reliable. Our neighbors tell us of how often they see her out walking our dogs and our house is always exactly as we left it. But the real proof of her sincere dedication is how overjoyed our dogs are to see her!"--Deborah Vulpe
We wanted to thank you for Pet/house sitting for us this past November. Our dog is so much happier being at home, than at a kennel, and while we are away on vacation, it is nice to have the added peace of mind that someone is watching the house. We only wish we had found you sooner!
We look forward to having you pet sit for us the next time we are out of town.--Joe & Connie LaBella
